چکیده

In 2010, the National Basketball Association (NBA) began to install a camera system to track the positions of the players and the ball as a function of time. For the ball and for each of the 10 players on the court, the system records an (x,y) position 25 times per second. Ultimately, this wealth of data should enable us to answer a number of questions regarding basketball strategy that would have seemed intractable just a few years ago. To bring this vision to reality, we must develop new algorithms that can efficiently use the data for inference of appropriate models. In this work, we focus on so-called “fast break” situations where an offensive player races towards the basket in an attempt to score before the defensive team has time to set up their defense. In many such situations, it is relatively easy to identify from the data a runner and a chaser. This motivates the following question that is central to the present paper: using the NBA’s spatial tracking data, how can we infer a stochastic model for the chaser’s pursuit of the runner? To answer this question, we first formulate a stochastic version of the classical pursuit model. Our model consists of a set of coupled, nonlinear stochastic differential equations with time-dependent coefficients. To perform Bayesian inference for this stochastic model, we develop a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. The MCMC algorithm is derived using a Metropolis scheme; our innovation is to evaluate the log likelihood efficiently using a novel, deterministic method

Joint Bayesian Stochastic Inversion of Well Logs and Seismic Data for Volumetric Uncertainty Analysis

Here in, an application of a new seismic inversion algorithm in one of Iran’s oilfields is described. Stochastic (geostatistical) seismic inversion, as a complementary method to deterministic inversion, is perceived as contribution combination of geostatistics and seismic inversion algorithm. This method integrates information from different data sources with different scales, as prior informat...

Bayesian Inference for Spatial Beta Generalized Linear Mixed Models

In some applications, the response variable assumes values in the unit interval. The standard linear regression model is not appropriate for modelling this type of data because the normality assumption is not met. Alternatively, the beta regression model has been introduced to analyze such observations. A beta distribution represents a flexible density family on (0, 1) interval that covers symm...

Intent Inference: Detection of anomalous trajectory patterns in target tracking

This paper develops novel stochastic models and associated signal processing algorithms for detecting intent in terms of anomalous trajectory patterns in target tracking. Stochastic context-free grammar models are presented for anomalous trajectories using the concept of tracklets. Bayesian signal processing algorithms for each model are also described to solve the related classification and pr...

A One-Stage Two-Machine Replacement Strategy Based on the Bayesian Inference Method

In this research, we consider an application of the Bayesian Inferences in machine replacement problem. The application is concerned with the time to replace two machines producing a specific product; each machine doing a special operation on the product when there are manufacturing defects because of failures. A common practice for this kind of problem is to fit a single distribution to the co...

Active inference and oculomotor pursuit: The dynamic causal modelling of eye movements

BACKGROUND This paper introduces a new paradigm that allows one to quantify the Bayesian beliefs evidenced by subjects during oculomotor pursuit. Subjects' eye tracking responses to a partially occluded sinusoidal target were recorded non-invasively and averaged. These response averages were then analysed using dynamic causal modelling (DCM). In DCM, observed responses are modelled using biolog...
